The song is sweet & has always been my number 1 pick for our wedding song. He decided to use it to propose. I'm so lucky to have a man like him.
We are so happy and wanted to make sure we shared the happiness while it was still fresh and exciting so we got straight on the Engagement Party planning train.
I am anti having a party 6 months after the engagement, if you do not have the time to plan it before that then you shouldn't be having a party. Unless you specifically advise that you do not want gifts.
With me being from Wollongong, us living in Sydney, D's parents having an amazing house in Stanwell Park & all of our friends being invited we decided to split the parties up and have one in Sydney for all of our friends & work people then one in Stanwell Park for our families & family friends.
So two parties seem do-able when you decide to have two.
Sydney - Pick a bar with a private area that is open late, has good food, is easy to get to & from, public transport accessible, drinks aren't too expensive and we don't have to worry about music.
Easy right? No wrong. I came up against $5,000 minimum spends, requirements for security guards, no replies to phone calls & emails, no quotes unless we go view the bar (we have been to 1,000 times) between 11 & 4 weekdays. The list goes on & on.
We ended up settling on Bedlam Bar on Glebe Point Rd after I spent the night there with a girlfriend.
$30 bottle of good Pinot Gris? check
Grilled haloumi? check
Decent music & crowd? check check
Public Transport? check
No minimum spend? Perfect we'll take it
Stanwell Park - ok not to easy. D's parents are quite traditional and do not understand that I want to style the party to link in with the feeling of the song. Vintage, rustic, easy & fun.
They have an amazing house in Stanwell Park that looks out onto the bush so I really wanted to use the deck regardless of the weather.
We can have gas heaters right?
So the list of decorations:
- Purple paper lanterns
- Purple & white paper straws
- 12 mason jars to hold my purple & white flowers
- Old metal tubs to hold drinks
- A chalk board to greet people - D's idea!
- The signs from the video framing the driveway as it is a long walk and everyone is to park on the street
- 3 blue mason jars with solar lids for table lights
- Vintage suitcase for gifts
- Personalised Water bottles with purple labels & handwritten messages
- Purple & brown blankets - it's super cold in Stanwell Park
- 4 x large lolly jars
- Signs in the same font as our invitations
- Glass drink dispensers
So food. D's mum has said she'll do it all with the help of her brother.
- Pork Ribs
- Prawn cutlets
- Kofta
- Fish & chips
- Mini burgers
- Tacos (soft tacos) with pulled pork
- Olives, capsicum, roasted tomatoes & some cheeses
- Charcuterie Plate - all cured meats
- Smoked salmon
- Mini cupcakes - chocolate & lemon
- 2 x ricotta cheesecakes
- 60 purple & white Macarons
We have more beer & wine than we could dream of going through but it's better to be safe than sorry.
Initiations for both parties were exactly the same so that saved me some stress.
But now I have so many bits & pieces to do over the next week. I have hair & make up appointments, waxing appointments & I still need to work and sleep.
Thank god my tanner comes to my house - http://beautyandthebronzed.com.au/
P.S She is the bomb. Use her!
D keeps telling me everything is under control, but I am freaking that he won't have music done. I need to trust him.
We have our party in Glebe this Saturday and I am having skin issues & battling girl problems.
I have my outfit selected and I just need to run my belt around to my shoe man to (hopefully) move the studs so it is more comfortable.
So I am stressed but very happy with how it is all coming along.
We are looking forward to spending this Saturday with our close friends and we will definitely be letting our hair down. We will be drinking too much & waking up feeling sorry for ourselves on Sunday. After all this is a celebration.
